Well it’s been some weeks since I aquired my first project accordion and I have now completely stripped to it’s bare bones allowing my first detailed damage report.
I mentioned in the first installment that there was a bit of a quirk with the bass mechanism, so that will have to be sorted, also some of the piano keys have become badly distorted but other than that it just needs a full overhaul including new felt pads, replacement of all the reed leathers and a full retune.
The first item on my list is to get the Bass end sorted out. So the plan is full removal of the reed blocks, a strip down of all the buttons and bass rods, removal of the pallet leather and felts so the next stage can begin.
I have new felt and leather on order, and I am in the process of deciding what changes need to be made to the bass mechanism so the right counter bass notes play on the correct buttons – so wish me luck!
