As an amateur musician I have been fortunate to have enjoyed some pretty cool events over the years, but nothing quite like a recent outing to the Royal Opera House. Not in the main theatre you understand – but in one of the upper floor studios – but the Royal Opera House nonetheless!
A few weeks ago I was asked if I could help out and play for a Rapper sword team made up of students of the Royal Ballet. this involved a visit to the White Lodge in Richmond Park – a former royal hunting lodge that has been the home of the royal ballet lower school since 1955 – for a rehearsal that was led by Simon Rice a past first soloist dancer with the royal ballet and is now the director of and Choreographs for his own dance company. Then the following evening, I played for the performance at what was billed as an ‘Insight’ evening the ROH.
I can’t explain how much I enjoyed the experience particularly watching these talented young guys dancing the Rapper with such precision – Great fun!
